“PROTECTING GOD’S CHILDREN” PROGRAM –
Preventing child sexual abuse is the goal of the
Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. “Protecting God’s
Children for Adults” educates clergy, staff and
volunteers who work with children about child abuse
and the ways to create safe environments for
children. Adults learn how to recognize signs and
symptoms that an adult is a potential risk or harm to
children and the steps that the faith community can
take to create a safe environment for all God’s
children and how to respond when adults behave in a
way that raises concerns.
ALL ADULT VOLUNTEERS
in our Lifelong Faith Formation Program have been or
will be trained in this program, also known as VIRTUS.
VIRTUS was developed and was to be implemented before
the crisis in the Catholic Church became known. This
issue, as sad as it is, has brought us the realization
that there are even deeper issues of abuse of young
people by many others (our media is filled with
abductions and abuse cases).
